1.This week we will go over the basics. I will run through topics such as summer homework, the AP exam, and the syllabus and expectations for the course.
2. Here is a copy of the syllabus for reference: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1i8ji-a9X1h2r-i9Ysb9SYg3IVZ7xsCr4hpGgUW3e1ks/edit?usp=sharing

- Recommended Supplies: Pen/Pencil, Colored pens, pencils or markers, Notebook/Paper, 2-Inch Binder with 8 dividers with tabs (2 smaller binders would be fine too- one for each semester), Calculator, Headphones/Earbuds
Student Evaluation: Students are evaluated based on total points. Roughly, point totals will work out as follows.
Unit tests/Quizzes: ~75%
Labs/Classwork: ~25%
Students will maintain a course binder, which will be a compilation of recorded evidence throughout the year.
The total points of quizzes for a unit will be roughly equivalent to the points allotted for the unit tests (i.e. if Unit 1 Quiz 1, 2, and 3 are worth 15 points each, then the Unit 1 Test will be worth around 45 points).
Each unit test mimics the AP Biology Exam containing multiple choice (MC) and free response questions (FRQ).
The MC portion of each exam counts as roughly 50% of the exam grade.
The FRQ count as the remaining 50% of the exam grade.
If a student scores higher on the unit test than the unit quizzes, I will replace the quiz scores with the unit test percentage. Ex. 75% on quiz 1, 80% on quiz 2, 90% on the test, all grades go up to a 90%, but if the student got a 70% on the test, the quiz grades would not change.
- Late work will be accepted for the current unit 1 day late with no penalty. Each subsequent day late will be a 10% deduction (ex. 90% for 2 days late, 80% for 3 days late…) up to 50% off. Work will not be accepted late once students are tested over work for that unit.
- Corrections: Unit test corrections will be offered for up to half credit back on each problem missed to raise your score up to 80%. Note: test corrections can improve the original test score, but the updated grade would NOT be used to replace a student's quiz scores.
- Safety Test on 8/19 (5 pts). Don't forget to turn in a signed copy of the safety contract (which will be sent home on paper)
- Properties of Water and Intro to Biochemistry/Elements of Life Presentation and Fill In Notes
- Penny Lab (12 pts)
- Students should be connected to both Google Classroom AND AP Classroom!
- Students are often assigned the daily videos and problem sets in AP Classroom.
- Quiz over 1.1 and 1.2 (14 pts) will be next week
